Set against the backdrop of the largest set of changes to GCSE exams for several years, students at Ockbrook School are celebrating continued excellent results with 97per cent overall pass rate and a fifth of all students straight A*/A grades.
With an astounding 62 per cent of A*/A grades, rising to 80 per cent A*/B grades, Ockbrook’s Class of 2014 maintain the school’s outstanding examination performance, which saw it top of the Department for Education GCSE performance tables in Derbyshire in 2013.
Tom Brooksby, Head Master, Ockbrook School, celebrates the students’ achievements: “It’s always rewarding to see that the time and effort invested in our students has yet again resulted in such outstanding examination results. The percentage of students achieving A*/A grades is up seven per cent on last year. Furthermore, 90 per cent of students achieved A*/B grades in Mathematics.
“This is all the more satisfying when you take into account the sweeping changes to GCSE exams that have been introduced this year, with only one opportunity to sit exams where in the past students could take them in January and the summer.
“Congratulations go out to all our students from myself, the governors and teaching staff. Our success is very much a team effort so I’d also like to acknowledge the huge role that parents and family also play in ensuring the success of our students.”
This year 97 per cent of students achieved five A*/C grades including Mathematics, whilst 84 per cent achieved a minimum of five A*/C grades including English. The same percentage achieved a minimum of five A*/C grades including English & Mathematics. The average number of A*/C grades per student was nine.
Sixteen year old Natasha Hall from West Hallam is celebrating achieving six A’s and three A*’s: “I’m so pleased! I can start enjoying the summer holidays now. It’s such a relief to have achieved these results and I’m really looking forward to starting my A Levels in September.” Also celebrating is international student Ho Chi Wong, who achieved seven A*’s and two A’s. She says: “This is fantastic. I have really enjoyed studying at Ockbrook and my whole family will be delighted with my results – as am I!”
