Our KS4 badminton team is celebrating its top 10 placing in the UK after competing in the Centre Parcs National School Badminton Championships on May 9th 2015.
Over 6,400 schools originally entered the competition. Our team’s long and winding path to the national finals started last year, winning the Erewash round in December, the Derbyshire round in February and the East Midlands’ Regional Round in March.
The competition finals took place at Centre Parcs, Rufford, in Nottinghamshire with a total of nine schools competing, including Ockbrook School. Each had won its regional competition.
Tom Brooksby, Headmaster, Ockbrook School, says: “What a fantastic achievement! This shows that our school is more than capable of competing at the very highest sporting levels. It’s a reflection of the excellent work of Mrs Moorhouse and the commitment, enthusiasm and skills of our highly competent players.”
Each match consisted of five games. These comprised two singles games played by Molly Watling (16) and Lauren Nutty (15), and a three further doubles games. These were played by Molly Watling and Sara Marriott (15), Georgia Stevenson (15) and Lauren Nutty, and Georgia Stevenson and Sara Marriott. Each match was a best of five games, played to 21 points.
