12.04.18 - Enterprising Ockbrook Students Take Positive Steps to Success

We are extremely proud of our talented Young Enterprise (YE) team. Vortex spring forward to the 2018 YE Derbyshire County Finals after celebrating huge success at the Area Finals.

Made up of 20 enthusiastic students, our budding entrepreneurs of the future blew judges away at the Area finals. Vortex scooped the award for ‘Best Trade Stand’, which was judged at the annual YE Trade Fair held at intu Derby, as well as ‘Best Financial Management’. Next is the Derbyshire County Final, which will be held on 16th April at Derby County Football Club.

Sally Frankish of Vortex says: “We’re over the moon to make it through to the next round of Young Enterprise. The whole experience has been really positive and greatly improved our confidence and communication skills. We regularly talk to others on the phone, sell our products to the general public and sell-in our products to shop managers. In fact, The Apple Tree and Caffe Torta – two local tea rooms and gift shops – are now stocking our journals.”

Everyone here at Ockbrook wishes Vortex the very best of luck at the Derbyshire County Finals!

YE is a national interschools competition that encourages, fosters and harnesses the entrepreneurial spirit of young people. Teams set up their own micro businesses and are judged on all aspects of a company’s performance, from sales and marketing to finance. Visit for further information.
